Being part of Doi Chiang Dao mountain, Chiang Dao Cave, Chiang Mai features beautiful crystal formations which have formed due to dripping water. The well-known cave complex is about 10 km long where some Burma Buddha images are enshrined and illuminated by electric lights.
The Caves have had a significant presence for the locals for over 1,000 years as is evident by the ancient Shan Chedi near the entrance and the folklore surrounding the Caves.
The deep recesses which have no light fixtures can be explored with local guides and lanterns. The local legend that this cave was once the home of a hermit for a thousand years, adds more attraction to the cave. The surrounding area is largely unspoiled and quite scenic.
