The St Josephs church, the oldest Catholic church in Thailand, is located Southern of the City Island in Ayutthaya Province. Originally built by Vietnamese immigrants, the French St Joseph’s church was destroyed during the sacking of Ayutthaya in 1767 by Myanmar’s.

The church lay in ruins for over 6 decades until restorations started in 1831 during the reign of King Rama IV.

The church is symbolizes the influence that the European powers exerted on the Thai Kingdom and a continuous Catholic worship in Thailand for over 300 years.

From the church, you have a nice view of the Chao Phraya River.
